Local Fishing Report-Charlotte Harbor

Reports Updated for June 2020

Charlotte Harbor

June is a peak tarpon month.  There have been good numbers of fish in Boca Grande Pass, a few fish mid-harbor in the 20 foot holes, and some tarpon are being taken around the bridges at night.  Shark fishing in the harbor has been steady this year with blacktips, blacknoses, sharpnoses, bulls and hammerheads as the most common catches.  Shark fishermen have been hooking a few cobia too, which offers a welcome surprise.  Trout fishing on the flats is “okay”, though not many anglers are fishing them since it’s catch-and-release for the rest of the year.  Mangrove snapper have been stacking up at the artificial reefs and around many creek and canal mouths.  Redfish are trickling out of the rivers and might be caught along just about any mangrove shoreline, though the action is more reliable in the lower harbor within a few miles of the ICW.  Don’t forget that redfish are catch-and-release now too.  Snook, including some very large specimens, are being caught and released around the harbor and out on the beaches.
